Telehealth Services Now Offered at Jackson-Hinds Comprehensive Health Center through Collaboration with The University of Mississippi Medical Center

Beginning May 1, 2018, Jackson-Hinds Comprehensive Health Center will be collaborating with the University of Mississippi Medical Center to bring telehealth services to its service population. Through this partnership, patients from the rural areas of Utica, Edwards, Vicksburg and Copiah will have access to the behavioral health services they need. Healthcare providers at Jackson-Hinds will be able to directly refer patients to off-site psychiatric nurse practitioners who will consult with patients via teleconference software, Jabber, in an arrangement that fully integrates modern technology into primary healthcare.

Telehealth providers will be available every Tuesday starting May 1st, and patients will be able to schedule half-hour or one-hour treatment intervals. Jackson-Hinds welcomes two psychiatric nurse practitioners, Amy Easley and Jana Cline, who will lead the new telehealth department. The collaboration conveniently benefits those patients who may be facing geographical barriers and have no reliable means of transportation to Jackson-Hinds sites. Uninsured and low-income patients will have the option of using the sliding fee scale to afford treatment just as they would any other primary health care service. Adding telehealth services to its continuum of care is one of many recent steps Jackson-Hinds is taking to combat health disparity in its rural service area.
